Sister M. Alojziana Spisakova, SDR
Board Member
After graduating from high school in 1990, Sister Alojziana responded to the call in her heart and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer. She began her studies in a two-year nursing program while also working as a nurse’s aide. She made her First Profession of Vows in 1993 and her Final Vows in 1998.
Sister Alojziana was then sent by her community to serve in various state hospitals in Slovakia, where she worked to bring the Redeemer’s love and care to patients at Bratislava Hospital, the Mental Institute for Children in Rohov, Topolcany Hospital, and Mercy Brothers Hospital in Bratislava. Her work focused especially on the frail elderly and children with disabilities, who require deep care and compassion.
In 2000, Sister Alojziana came to the United States and served at the Divine Redeemer Motherhouse in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, helping to care for and nurse the elderly Sisters in the spirit of Blessed Alphonse Marie, the foundress of the Congregation. In 2004, she returned to the Slovak Province, where she served until 2016. During that time, she provided home care for the elderly, served two terms as Local Superior in Vricko, and worked as a nurse for the elderly Sisters at the House of Mother Alphonse Marie. She was later sent to St. Luke Geriatric Hospital in Kosice, where she served as both a nurse and Local Superior, continuing to bring comfort and joy to the elderly through the Redeemer’s love.
In 2016, Sister Alojziana returned to the American Region and currently serves as Regional Superior. In this role, she cares for the Sisters and the broader community while continuing her nursing work with the elderly Sisters. She also manages and administers the American Region and maintains communication with laypeople and religious both in the United States and internationally. Through all of her work, she continues to carry forward the mission and charism of Blessed Alphonse Marie by spreading the Redeemer’s love.
As the number of Sisters declines, Sister Alojziana remains deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue their mission through The Rock of the Redeemer, which she sees as a source of hope for the future. She actively supports the organization by assisting the Board, volunteers, and ambassadors in planning and carrying out activities at the Motherhouse, on the grounds, and within the broader community. She and the Sisters remain present and supportive whenever they are needed.
